WIP Wednesday

NThe weeks are rolling by too quickly. I completely finished my huge project on Tiara, and will show you as soon as I can.  I am so very anxious!!!!!
Today I did finish my new tree skirt...I have an older one in traditional colors of red and green to go with my older decorations. This one will go with my newer ornaments which I usually switch out every couple of years.

It doesn't look anywhere near as nice here as it really does...It is so sparkley with this metalic fabric.
Now my quilting on the white star points don't show here either..lol.  I love them!!!!!
Here, on the back you can see the stitching...

I used a Coates silver metalic thread on top and white Glide Delight in the bobbing...pre wound.

Blogathon Canada...And a Little about Me

Blogathong Canada

Not too long ago, I had a fellow blogger ask if I had a blog post about how I go about my hand quilting process. It took me by surprise because I had never thought about it...it is something I guess, that I take for granted.

It was Stacey who asked me about it, and I agreed to do just that, one of these days. So, I thought...why not now during Blogathon Canada????

This afternoon I decided to put one of my own quilts in to hand quilt so....here is my process.
In this first pic I am showing you a homemade version of quilting frames.

They are rough looking,  but work like a charm!

That groove you see here on the left is where my quilting bars rest. I have 4 sets of bars ...from crib to king size. All I need to do is move the 2 ends farther apart to fit the larger ones in.

This is how I stitch the back of my quilt in to the frames...wrong side facing up...ok?
Now the other side stitched in, and next I roll the backing around one of these bars. I work at about 3 feet of the quilt at a time.
Here it is...the side I start quilting at with the ends all tied in.
The side that is rolled....see the little lever thingy there on the right corner of the picture??  That fits against the wooden cog to keep the quilt tight. It's on the far left in the above picture too.
See...all nice and tight....
Now I stretch the quilt batt over that tight area, and the excess falls down behind the quilt.
Here you see the quilt top....stretched out the same as the batt.  It falls down over the back area with the quilt batt.  as I progress with the quilting I will roll in one side and roll out the other.
Next step is to pin baste the quilt top to the other 2 layers.

Now...this is the pattern that I am quilting on this quilt...
This is my favorite type of thimble and hand quilting needles.
As I finish this row across the quilt as far as I can reach, then I will roll this side under the quilt bar..and roll the opposite side out. Continuing in this manner through the whole quilt.

I will post more pics as it moves along. I hope you weren't too bored with my explanation.lol.
Make sure you visit our fellow Canadian bloggers this week...there will also be giveaways.

WIP Wednesday

Hey folks!  Today was a good day here...Remembrance service this morning was great, and the weather was good. It was nice to get outside in a t shirt...washed the car.

Now for WIPs....I've been sewing steady, but for Christmas and can't show you yet. I will be glad when I can get back to normal projects here!!!     Lol
I did finish the three casserole carriers that I had an order for....no laughing now, I forgot to take pictures before shipping them out yesterday!!!!!!! So, I have one picture....gosh!!!!

The other 2 were shades of brown and shades of rust...actually quite nice colors. This is not something I expected to get an order for, but not boring to make either...lol.

I did machine quilt a wall hanging for one of my daughter in laws yesterday to give to her little niece.

Hoping to teach her how to bind it...lol.
I have a large quilt ready to pin baste for the Tiara...largest one yet.
We've missed our sewing get together so for the past 2 weeks....everyone is just busy.

WIP Wednesday

It has been a cold week here so far....lots of snow in Northern New Brunswick, nothing here yet. Hoping it stays that way!!!!!
Lately I've been busy getting ready for this craft sale on Saturday.  I did finish hand quilting this little quilt for my sewing friend, Rose....

You can't see the quilting here because it is black on black, but it turned out very nice. Rose loves hot air balloons and added them here.

Here are a few things I've been putting together for the sale and orders.

The fabrics here are Robert Kauffman with metallics....very pretty fabrics.
A runner with the same fabrics...
A table topper....I have orders for these last 2 pieces besides what is here.
Did a couple of these...
This neat wall hanging...
Made this casserole carrier today...now it looks pretty flat here because it is....nothing in it...lol
I have 2 more of these to make as orders.
Besides doing this...I am going through everything I already have made to pack for the sale.
I am caught up with customer hand quilting for the first time in....I don't know how long.  So, if you are in need of hand quilting....now is the time...lol.
I also machine quilted another quilt that I can't show yet...sorry...soon.
