FMQ Challenge/Bonus for October

This month SewCalGal gave us another bonus challenge that we could do if we liked.  Diane Loomis was the instructor for this one; and a great job she did!!!   You can go here to see the tutorial and also some other works.

The challenge was to do machine tarpunto along with the FMQ. Well; I've barely got into the FMQ...lol, never mind tarpunto...never done it at all!  We were suppose to use water soluble thread to start the project; then move on to the FMQ.  I didn't have this thread since I've never had the need; so I improvised. It worked out quite well,  But because I was improvising, I only did the larger part of the sample...couldn't do the smaller detail of the feathered border.  But I am very pleased with what I did get to try and will definitely get the water soluble thread for another attempt at this one!!

If you check out Diane's samples at the link above, you'll see she has a feathered border. mine is without the border....I just cut a piece of heavier batt to place behind the flower then layered the sandwich as usual; so I think it would be too difficult to do it with a tiny feathered border. But I wanted to try it; my sample: I still can't follow a straight line though...lol

This was done on a piece of satin on top and cotton backing....I used cotton quilt batt; but for the tarpunto I used a combo cotton/10percent polyester batt.  more for crafts.
The thread was rayon in the needle and bobbin thread in the bobbin. This worked really well.

It is raining cats and dogs here today; so should get more sewing done. I have the fan quilt almost quilted, and working on my Holiday Lane Pillow.

'Wicked' is Haunting my Place Today!!!!!!/Giveaway

I have been anxiously awaiting this day to show you my blocks for this hop...welcome all!!
Before we get down to my projects; I want to thank Wendy, our wonderful host for this blog hop...
and Madame Samm, our fantastic cheerleader for so many of these fun experiences.

This was so much fun for me...from looking for projects, to the applique, right down to the FMQ...yes!!!!  I said FMQ...lol.  I ended up taking bits and pieces from pictures and projects that I found and put them together to make it mine.

First we have the pumpkin and that dreaded black cat...

Who can resist the spiders and bats?....
Ohhhhhhh little devils are lurking in and around this tree....gobblins have scared the black right out of the cat!!!!
Who do you suppose owns this broom anyway?.....

Now to put them together......I love it!!

How about a close up of each block now..............

Remember this???

Well she has got around....lol.  She was featured in Martingale's newsletter this month...she now looks like this....in cushion form.

I actually enjoyed the FMQ in these pieces.  The class that Marla, Connie and Rose and I took a week ago...was what I needed for more confidence and relaxation....It is just meandering, but you wouldn't believe how much more I am relaxed with it.   There may be hope!!!!

Now; I can't do a hop without a giveaway!!!!!!!!!! Here it is:

A wall hanging kit.....the fabric and pattern included to make this cute Halloween piece.

To enter: 1. Just leave a comment about anything you like.
               2. Followers get a 2nd entry, old or new followers. Just leave a comment telling me....ok?

I will randomly draw at the end of the hop...make sure I can reach you please.
I will try to answer all comments on this post...email is too slow; so thanks ahead of time for your patience.

Bloggers Quilt Festival

This time around, I am entering a baby quilt. I have been hand quilting for so many other people this year; I haven't got much of my own finished.  But that's ok......

This quilt measures 39 x 49.....and it was the first project I did with my Go! Baby....which I love.
I FMQ it, which is a task for me...lol. It is the largest piece I have machine quilted so far.  I am a hand quilter; but learning.

I also love the vibrant color in this little quilt.  I quilted swirls and flowers all over it and added a few circles to the back; as you can see here.

I hope everyone enjoys Quilt Festival this Fall.....check it out....here.

WIPWednesday

We are back for another works in progress...how the time flies.  We're at that time of year where my yard work is about finished for this year. Sad, but it is time; I guess. I planted fall bulbs today and it was chilly, but sunny; great day for work outside.

Now this week I am plugging away with a number of things quilt related:

I finished my sample for the FMQ challenge this month; still want to squeeze in the bonus one.

First try at it....can't see my name;  white thread....
Second try.....more colorful; no better...lol. But I am becoming much more relaxed.

I have my RTQAL quilt almost put together...needs borders.

I'm not used to not having all blocks matchie matchie...lol.  But I like it more than I thought I would. Don't look at the mess in my bedroom....I always have something in a corner...lol

I have a little peek of my 'Wicked' piece for you to see....then come back on the 29th to see more.
Isn't he just the cutest thing!!
And I have a new quilt in the frames....now this is an old school quilt. I picked it up a few days ago to hand quilt for a lady.

These fans are hand embroidered.  Don't see that much now.  So; I think that is it for me for this week. You know the drill....I link up to Lee      and Monika, and you go look at all the wonderful work...right??....lol

Have a great day everyone!!!!!!!!!!!1

October FMQ Challenge

Wow...October already, and this FMQ Challenge will be over before we know it!  I can't believe it; so much fun going on.  This month SewCalGal has teamed us up with Teri Lucas for the challenge. Teri gave a great tutorial and pictures for us to follow.

I want to thank both of you for this month's work. I really enjoyed it; and here are the 2 practice pieces I did.

This is the first one I tried...sorry the white thread doesn't show up better.
This is the 2nd one....a long way from perfect, but much more relaxed than the first one.
If you want to see more of what others have done for this challenge head over here and take a look.

More Pictures of Today's Quilt

The weather is dull today; and this quilt is an odd combo of colors. Therefore it is hard to see the hand quilting. But here is another shot at it.

This first one is the front center of the quilt
This is the center of the back of the quilt
a little closer on the center.

WIP Wednesday

I am a bit late linking up today...I had to throw wood in this morning; and finish this quilt.  I had about an hour and a half of quilting left to do.  I wanted it finished to show you.

So; my \WIPs    consist of the finishing of the commissioned quilt( she pieced it; I hand quilted it)
my RTQAL top is ready to put together; added a few extra blocks
'Wicked' blocks are ready and anxiously waiting my day/Oct.29th
getting ready for the pillow blog hop....lol
I picked up a quilt to hand quilt yesterday and waiting for 2 more
I have been commissioned to make a Bluenose quilt: not started.

So; here is the pic of the finished quilt: not even trimmed up yet...I am in a hurry; going to help a neighbour cut more fabric.  I am linking up to Lee and Monika...enjoy your day.

Pictures of the Quilts in Amherst Show

I didn't take many pictures; only had my phone with me...and I usually forget. if not for Marla there would be none....lol. So; here are a couple for you...I didn't think to take any of the wools and fiber arts at the bizzare. But for someone into this; it was a great bizzare!!

 The Bluenose....not too clear, though
Looking down to the front of the church....and this runner...I thought was just too cute!! Reminds me of Beetle juice.

This is an iron carrier...very neat idea!

And me!!!!  with a lovely background of quilts....I even found a couple of quilts in the show that I hand quilted for the owner!!!  Was a nice surprise.
